Salvatore Aronica reveals Walter Mazzarri already confessed he’d leave Napoli for Inter in January 2013.

The Coach kept the club and fans guessing as to whether he’d sign a contract renewal for months, but eventually let his deal expire and joined Inter in June 2013.

“I had offers from Atalanta” data-scaytid=”6″>Atalanta, Parma and Palermo in January 2013,” ex-Napoli defender Aronica told CalcioNapoli24.

“Mazzarri called and told me he already had a deal with Inter, so if I received an important offer it was best to accept it.

“The Coach told me he had pressure from the club hierarchy, where he was forced to give space to certain youngsters and that it was best for me to leave Napoli.

“Palermo made an important offer, Mazzarri was going and that meant I’d go in June as well, so at that point I chose to go back to my homeland.”

However, Aronica is frozen out of the squad in Palermo despite their numerous defensive problems.

“It’s a strange situation here in Palermo. I still don’t understand why I’ve been pushed to the sidelines of this project. I signed a contract to June 2015 and last year they even extended it.

“When we went down to Serie B, President Zamparini decided to get rid of many players signed by (previous director Pietro) Lo Monaco, including me.

“I was frozen out and I am still here. At this stage, I expect to still be here next year. Yet I am among the highest paid players in the squad. It’s absurd. Several different directors confirmed to me this was Zamparini’s decision.”
