Chievo have officially sacked Coach Eugenio Corini and Rolando Maran is expected to take over.

The decision was announced this afternoon following a 3-0 defeat to Roma on Saturday.

This season the Flying Donkeys have amassed one win, one draw and five defeats.

Maran is expected to take over, but there is a delay as he must first terminate his contract with Catania, who fired him last season.

“Chievo Verona announce that first team Coach Eugenio Corini has been removed from his post. The club gives him our most hearfelt thanks for the hard work, professionalism and dedication, wishing him the best for his future career.”

Corini signed a new contract extension to 2017 on June 22, but the club has dismissed him anyway.

Corini’s rapport with Chievo has always been fraught since he became their tactician in October 2012.

He rescued the club from relegation and left by mutual consent in May 2013, maintaining the directors did not have enough faith in his plans.

Corini returned in November 2013 to replace Giuseppe Sannino and again ensured their Serie A status.
