Massimo Moratti has played down suggestions that his resignation from Inter was fuelled by a strained relationship with Erick Thohir.

Reports have claimed that the 69-year-old had become frustrated with a perceived marginalisation at the Giuseppe Meazza.

His decision to walk away from his role as honorary President was speculated as the result of having finally lost patience with the Indonesian tycoon, over a difference of opinion about Walter Mazzarri’s tenure as Coach.

Yet the former patron insists he has merely served his time at San Siro and remains committed to his 30 per cent stake in the club.

“Yes [Mazzarri didn’t say anything wrong], but neither did I,” Moratti has told reporters in Milan today.

“Do I feel betrayed by Mazzarri? No.

“Did I expect it to end like this with Thohir? It didn’t end badly, it was just a moment of change.

“I think it was natural.

“I think I've done my time, nothing more. My shares are still there, and I will keep them.”
