“I am very motivated, eager to do well and am right behind the Chievo cause from the start,” said Maran after replacing Eugenio Corini.

“I had a positive response from the squad, as is logical and I never had doubts on that. They really stepped up during training this week.

“If I think about my debut for Chievo, my mind will wander and it is going to be emotional.”

It’s particularly special for Maran, who spent most of his playing career with the Flying Donkeys in Serie C and B.

“Genoa are one of the toughest sides we could’ve faced, as they press hard and don’t give you a chance to play your football.

“They also give few reference points for defenders and work very hard.”

Mariano Izco and Ruben Botta are still out of action.

Chievo squad for Genoa: Bardi, Seculin, Bizzarri; Cesar, Frey, Dainelli, Sardo, Edimar, Gamberini, Biraghi, Zukanovic; Cofie, Hetemaj, Radovanovic, Mangani, Bellomo, Birsa; Schelotto, Lazarevic, Pellissier, Meggiorini, Maxi Lopez, Paloschi
