Inter director general Marco Fassone says there is no crisis at Inter, but admitted the Nerazzurri expected to do better.

Walter Mazzarri’s side were beaten 2-0 by bottom club Parma on Saturday night, leaving the Beneamata in ninth place in Serie A, with fans whistling the Coach and calling for former boss Roberto Mancini to return to the bench.

Despite the calls for his head, Mazzarri appears to have the backing of the Inter board, with director general Marco Fassone denying talks that the club is in crisis.

“We don’t have many points, but the League is very even,” Fassone reflected to Domenica Sportiva.

“While we have 15 points and there are six teams between ourselves and third, we’re only four points behind.

“Now we have three games, including two against Milan and Roma where we could see the table revolutionised.

“We are looking internally at the management situation, including President Erick Thohir.

“As for calling it an emergency for the Coach, the suffering is because in the last few years Inter have finished ninth, fifth and sixth and there’s an increasing expectation that we’ll return to the positions which befit us.

“This may well be the case, but we have ample opportunities for growth, and we see no emergency situation.

“In the first 25 minutes of the second half [of the Parma game] we came close to equalising. If we had maybe we’d be talking about a different game, but we’re not looking for excuses.

“However, you have make a broader assessment. Look at the first 15 games of the season and you see a record that’s both good and bad.

“While we’ve done well in the Europa League and have an important game with Saint-Etienne on Thursday which we hope will be decisive for us.

“In the League, results have been very mixed.

“We recovered at the end in the Napoli game, and then we had two wins where we played very well, especially against Sampdoria.

“That being said, the average is 1.5 points per game, which is lower than expected.”
