Pippo Inzaghi said Milan had “our best performance of the season” as they swept Udinese aside 2-0.

“Menez is a centre-forward with his own characteristics, just as I was different to Shevchenko,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia to silence the ‘False Nine’ debate.

“We should’ve been 3-0 up at the break and it was still goalless, so I think overall it was Milan’s best performance of the season.
“My objective this term is to get the team playing good football, for the fans to be smiling in the stands and to make our President happy.

“There are many reasons to be satisfied today. Those who were out for a while, like Van Ginkel and Armero, did very well and I am happy for them. I am also happy for Pazzini, who I know will be of use even if he hasn’t had much space, and of course for the return of our great captain Montolivo.

“With Montolivo I have more options, as he can play in so many different positions. We’re happy he is back and now it’s up to me to find the best moment for him to return.

“It’s a shame we lost Essien for the next game. I want to single out Bonera and Essien, as the crowd have decided their judgement and seem to start grumbling at the first half-mistake, ignoring the rest of the performances.”

It was a controversial game with a phantom goal from Adil Rami, a soft penalty and two debatable red cards.

“Let’s just stick to how we played, which is the real importance of football. We dominated from start to finish, so a couple of incidents won’t change that.

“I only have two ways of getting slowly back to where we were and those are good football and hard work.”
