The Sea Horses are without a win since the opening weekend and were trailing to a very contentious Simone Zaza spot-kick before Ze Eduardo nodded in at the 94th minute.

“I am happy because I saw improvements, the response from the players was positive and we didn’t get demoralised even after losing 4-1 to Fiorentina last week,” Di Carlo told Sky Sport Italia.

This was his second game in charge after replacing sacked Pierpaolo Bisoli.

“Ze Eduardo had a chance and made the most of it. The penalty was undeserved and a goal like that could’ve felled us.

“Let’s not beat about the bush, that was not a penalty. I wouldn’t dare say anything to the referee, but that wasn’t a penalty and everyone on the pitch said so too.

“What counts is that everyone understands we can only emerge from this situation with courage. This is the starting point to improve.”
