Cagliari have officially appointed Gianfranco Zola as their new Coach after sacking Zdenek Zeman.

The decision was announced on Christmas Eve and he will begin training on December 28.

"Welcome home Gianfranco," read the statement posted on the Cagliari website.

Zola takes charge of his first Serie A club, as his only previous Italian coaching experience was as co-manager of the Italy Under-21 side.

Zola worked in England at West Ham and Watford.
