The Sea Horses had looked certain for relegation after one win in the entire first half of the campaign.
However, they are now coming off back-to-back victories over Parma and Lazio, so another positive result in this head-to-head with Empoli could take them to the very edge of safety.
“This will be tougher than the match with Lazio, because Empoli are without a win in nine rounds and therefore have to step up a gear against us.
“In fact, this comeback started three rounds ago, because although we lost to Torino, we put in a good performance.
“The team is improving, the group follows my directives and we are starting to see some decent football, but it’s still not enough. We must all give something more, as there’s a long road ahead.
“We put up with a lot and our position in the table is still negative, but the team spirit has changed.”
Di Carlo already achieved a remarkable comeback to rescue Chievo in 2008-09 and came close to Livorno last season.
“They shouldn’t have sacked me four weeks from the end of the season when only three points away from safety.”
