Real Madrid Coach Carlo Ancelotti has said he 'would like' to lead the Azzurri, but only at the right moment.

The three-time Champions League winner is one of the most popular names for the future of the Italia bench, and many believe he would be holding it now had Antonio Conte not swooped in from Juventus.

Asked by Gazzetta TV whether that option was still open for him in the future, Ancelotti admitted it was a possibility.

“I would like to,” he said. “But only when I lose the drive to Coach every day.

“For now that's still what I want to do. There is a destiny in football.

“My experience as [former Azzurri Coach Arrigo] Sacchi's assistant in [the World Cup in] USA '94 was beautiful.

“Working with him taught me a lot about the way to explain things to players.”

The 55-year-old was also asked about the relationship between a Coach and his club President.

“It's not the most important thing. It's your relationship with the players that leads to success.

“Sometimes things went well, other times not so much. A Coach must feel protected by his club.

“My favourite Ballon D'Or's to work with? [Zinedine] Zidane was a lot of fun in training, while Cristiano [Ronaldo] amuses me in the games because he scores practically every time.”
