Leonardo believes Juventus are in “a more comfortable position” being underdogs against Real Madrid.

The first leg of the Champions League semi-final kicks off in Turin tonight at 19.45 UK time (18.45 GMT).

“Juve are certainly not starting out as favourites against Real Madrid, but perhaps that puts them in a more comfortable position and they could get an important boost from that,” the Brazilian told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Leonardo is in Italy to take part in the Match for Expo charity event organised by Javier Zanetti.

“It was very emotional to be back here at San Siro, for Zanetti too. It was also great to see his history celebrated by Inter retiring his jersey.”

Leo was Coach of both Milan and Inter, but both clubs are in serious trouble this season.

“I think we need an overall analysis of the situation and new ideas are needed in the governance of Italian football.

“The movement has changed. We need to open ourselves up to markets that haven’t been used much and modernise management techniques.

“There is also a generational shift that will have to happen sooner or later. The Premier League is at that level because there is a company running the whole thing, then the individual clubs below them. They have a global approach.”
