Guardiola returned at the helm of Bayern to face his former club, where he won 14 trophies, in the first leg of this Champions League semi at Camp Nou.

Barcelona started strong, causing huge problems for the German back three, as Luis Suarez wasted a golden opportunity one-on-one with Manuel Neuer.

Bayern moved to four at the back, though it did not stop the Blaugrana creating more opportunities. Philipp Lahm flung himself in the way of a Neymar tap-in, then Neuer came to the rescue again to stop Dani Alves from close range.

Robert Lewandowski played wearing a protective mask and could’ve given Bayern the half-time lead, but failed to get on the end of a Thomas Muller pull-back.

Neuer was unsurprisingly Man of the Match for the visitors, performing another save on Leo Messi and rushing well outside his box to sweep up the danger from Neymar.

Marc-Andre ter Stegen smothered a deflected Thiago Alcantara effort, but the breakthrough arrived 13 minutes from time.

Juan Bernat gave away possession and Messi did not hesitate to smash a low drive into the near bottom corner.

Messi tore the tiring Bayern defence apart moments later, a feint sending Jerome Boateng on to his backside before placing a delightful chip over Neuer from a tight angle.

Bayern poured forward trying to get a precious away goal, but left gaps at the back and Neymar sprung the offside trap to slide his finish under Neuer for Barcelona’s third.

It was a special moment for Coach Luis Enrique, whose team saw off his mentor Guardiola.
