The Nerazzurri commemorate the fifth anniversary of winning the Scudetto, Coppa Italia and Champions League in May 2010.

“Now someone else is trying to repeat it,” smiled Moratti on Rai Sport, referring to Juventus.

“The Champions League Final against Barcelona is a tough obstacle to overcome.

“Obviously our Treble remains in the hearts of Inter fans, especially the Champions League, as the Final didn’t even seem that hard. We suffered more in the other Final, the Scudetto decider with Siena.”

Mourinho was on the bench that day and left after the victory in Madrid, but still feels close to the Nerazzurri.

“I do still talk to Mourinho. In fact, a few months ago he reminded me the fifth anniversary of the Treble was coming up and we should so something to commemorate it, as it was one of the best moments of his life.

“He was very sweet about that. We do talk every now and then, especially now that he’s won the Premier League it gave me great pleasure to congratulate him.”

Inter are barely recognisable five years later, as Moratti sold the club to Erick Thohir and they’re struggling to even qualify for the Europa League.

“The players, President, Coach have all changed. Naturally this is a moment of reconstruction, of novelty and as such we need to approach it with patience.

“Roberto Mancini is a talented man, he was when playing football and still has that talent as a Coach. At the end of the day he will bring something good.”

Inter did not disguise their desire to sign Yaya Toure from Manchester City. Does Moratti agree?

“I think he’s the right person to put in there. After that all the issues regarding his age and transfer fee are fortunately for someone else to worry about.

“I left Inter with great sadness, but at the same time the certainty it was the right move. I hope Thohir can always enjoy the club, because thankfully I never lacked the pleasure of being responsible for Inter.”
