Italy Coach Antonio Conte could step down from his Azzurri post if he is called back to court as part of an ongoing match-fixing investigation.

Conte served a four-month ban in 2012 after failing to report match-fixing in two games involving his former club Siena during his spell there in 2010-11.

However, as he prepares to take on Croatia with his Italy side in Euro 2016 qualifying, he is again faced with the possibility of legal action against him, as part of an investigation into alleged Serie B, Lega Pro and Coppa Italia fixes during 2010-11.

La Gazzetta dello Sport has reported, though, that the charges of sporting fraud against Conte involving two Siena matches, against Novara and Albinoleffe, are based on fragile foundations.

The defence is convinced that the Coach would be acquitted and that the case would not hold up in an immediate trial, while also arguing that he has already served a suspension.

The newspaper believes, however, that if Conte was to become embroiled in a legal process once again, he would have no choice but to leave his post with the Azzurri.
