Cristian Zaccardo revealed why he left Milan for Carpi “with humility to win our Scudetto, which is safety.”

The defender had been on the outskirts of the Rossoneri squad for some time, but finally made the move on transfer deadline day.

“There was some talk at the end of July, then I evaluated my chances at Milan,” he said in a Press conference.

“I realised that I was outside of the technical project. During the last few days of the transfer market, Carpi called me often to say they wanted me to become an important player here.

“I evaluated the offer, we reached an agreement almost immediately and closed a deal on the last day with help from Milan.

“It’s basically coming home, as I have a house near here anyway.”

Carpi are in their first ever top flight campaign and so far have two defeats, falling 5-2 at Sampdoria and 2-1 to Inter.

“I know this will be a difficult year, because we’re fighting for safety in a Serie A with many strong teams. That is an objective I hadn’t really dealt with in recent years.

“I come here with humility, putting myself at the disposal of the Coach and my teammates. I hope to prove my quality on the pitch. I am here to win our Scudetto, which is safety.

“Coach Fabrizio Castori told me to forget about Milan, as there’s a very different atmosphere. I can see he works the team hard and did so well last season. They had the best defensive record in Serie B and that means they are organised.”
