“Roma are already active in various areas of social responsibility, including the refugee emergency,” Baldissoni explained at a Press conference to present Emerson Palmieri.

“From September we’ll sponsor a team of refugees in Terza Categoria [the bottom tier of Italian football]. We’re also part of another project with the Lega Serie B to build infrastructure in Lampedusa [the Italian island where many refugees land after crossing the Mediterranean].

“The emotional outpouring after recent events suggested to the President [James Pallotta] that we have to do more, like direct donations.

“We’re trying to unify the whole world of football, we’ve invested resources to set up two platforms to raise funds through direct donations and auctions.

“We’ve had a lot of great feedback. It’s open to anyone who wants to and can give.”
