The Viola fell off the top of the Serie A table at the weekend, but are only two points behind new leaders Inter.

“Choose between Serie A and Europa League? We want both,” Rodriguez told Tuttosport newspaper.

“It’s only right that the fans dream of the Scudetto and we would not settle for third place. We play the best football in Italy, so we have to believe.”

He sees Inter, Napoli, Roma and Juventus as the other contenders for the title this season.

“Vincenzo Montella gave us a style of play, but now we are more balanced in defence too. Paulo Sousa made us believe we can win against anyone.

“Nikola Kalinic really surprised everyone with his impact on Serie A. He’s a true hitman and with Gonzalo Higuain is proving to be one of the best.”

Gonzalo Rodriguez already has one eye on a future return to Argentina.

“I’d like to end my career at San Lorenzo, but I do love Florence, so we’ll see.”
