The miraculous recovery of the Rossoblu came to an abrupt end yesterday, as the newly-promoted team were defeated 2-0 against the Toro.

“We played a good game, much more defensive than I expected,” said the Coach after the match. “Going forward we lacked determination and conviction, and this led us to playing too low.

“Up until a certain point we'd risked very little, then the episode [on Andrea Belotti's goal] doomed us. I saw the replay and I thought the goal was influenced by the striker's handball.

“It's hard to control such a strong ball without helping yourself with your hand.”

Donadoni then went on to analyse the defeat from a tactical point of view.

“If you can't control possession, then you're forced to close gaps. Tonight we weren't able to keep the ball. There are games in which this happens, and you must adapt yourself so you don't suffer.

“The team deployed as it had to, but some adversaries can force you into a poor performance. They were pushing hard on the wings, but that can also be determined by what you're compelling your opponent to do.

“If you're more dangerous when attacking, you also force your opponent to push less.

“The absence of [striker Mattia] Destro? Now we can say anything. Mattia is an important player, but I remember what people were saying only two weeks ago.

“We have other central strikers who must show their quality, but when you play with continuity things become easier. By contrast, when you feel like you've got to prove everything, it's impossible to play with a clear mind.”

Bologna's next game is against Napoli, one of the favourites for this year's Scudetto.

“I'm glad that a great adversary is coming. We'll have the chance to react with immediate determination to today's defeat.”
