Maurizio Sarri told off new Serie A leaders Napoli for “thinking it was a done deal” and risking against 10-man Inter.

The Partenopei are top of the table for the first time in 25 years, since winning the Scudetto in 1990.

“I am happy to have given these wonderful fans this satisfaction after many years, but from tomorrow we have to get back to work,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia following a 2-1 victory.

“We did well not to get discouraged during a difficult moment, so we must do equally well not to get ahead of ourselves now.

“Until the Inter goal we were dominating. In my view we considered it to be a done deal when 2-0 up and got distracted, making the kind of mistakes we don’t usually do.

“We got confused and disorganised, I think anxiety set in too after the goal and fatigue after the Europa League added to everything.

“Napoli is a wonderful environment to experience, but a very difficult one to control. Knowing the humility of my players, I think we can remain what we’ve always been.

“There’s no point talking now, there are another 72 points up for grabs, with 31 so far we haven’t even guaranteed safety from relegation!

“Tomorrow the team will sit down and talk about what we can improve, not the table, so I’ll be giving them a real telling off about that final 20 minute spell.

“We can’t think that we are the best because we won a game, especially as Fiorentina and Inter played extremely well at the San Paolo.”

Roberto Mancini was furious with referee Daniele Orsato for the Yuto Nagatomo dismissal.

“The first Nagatomo foul was in front of my bench and the ball was long gone, the second was a very clumsy tackle on Allan who was running away.”

Gonzalo Higuain bagged a brace and has now scored in each of his last eight home games.

“If Higuain makes another step forward psychologically, then he can become an extra-terrestrial. He needs to be even more determined.”

Napoli have lost only one game this season and that was the first against Sassuolo in August.

Since then between Serie A and the Europa League the Partenopei have won 14 and drawn four, scoring 42 goals and conceding eight.

“The credit goes to the squad. My only job was being credible in the eyes of this group.”
