“It is a very, very important game, the most important of the season so far. We want to get back to winning ways and turn the tide,” said the Coach in his Press conference.

“I am convinced it won’t take much to get that spark, that turning point to rediscover my team. Small things can make the difference.

“I want more concentration in defence, more determination in attack and then we can change the course of the campaign.

“I’ve seen such motivation and focus in training this week, so I just want that attitude replicated on the field tomorrow for the full 90 minutes.”

Lazio fans protested at recent poor results by placing sacks of manure on the entrance to the training ground accompanied by insulting banners.

“I am very disappointed, especially as these problems are not just about the team. We are responsible for the results, which are certainly not what the fans were expecting.

“I appreciate that the supporters don’t blame me specifically and this motivates me even more to try and resolve the situation. I realise that in football if you don’t get results, you will be at risk as a Coach.

“We had a shaky start, had got back on track, then made mistakes that really aren’t in our nature. That sapped confidence and it was clear to see.

“We have to improve our approach to the game and not let our heads drop when something goes wrong. I know my team, I know the problems and how to resolve them, which is why I think I’m the right Coach for the job.

“The objective this season is to qualify for Europe and we can still achieve that.”

If Lazio are in crisis, then Sampdoria are in an even worse condition after four consecutive defeats.

“It’s not easy knowing what Vincenzo Montella intends to do, but at this moment the most important thing is our approach and our performance. We have to be more motivated, hungrier and more determined.

“We want to play the best football possible, but we also need determination, organisation from set plays and a sharp mind.

“This is a great opportunity for us tomorrow and we have to think positive. I want to see my team again and we need to be optimistic.”
