Palermo President Maurizio Zamparini announced he “will not sack Davide Ballardini for the moment” despite the team ignoring him.

The last few days have been absolute chaos, even by the standards of the Sicilian club.

“At the moment I will not sack Ballardini, even if I could do with just cause because our Coach did not even prepare the game with Verona,” Zamparini told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“I had recalled Iachini, but he did not seem convinced.”

Zamparini had decided to sack the Coach on Thursday and recall predecessor Beppe Iachini, only to change his mind.

Yesterday Ballardini got into a huge row with captain Stefano Sorrentino and today the goalkeeper confirmed the team had abandoned their tactician.

“He didn’t speak to the team before, during or after the game. We played without a Coach today, on our own,” said Sorrentino after the 1-0 win away to Verona.

Now the situation is surely untenable, as Sorrentino spoke on television as if Ballardini had already been removed from his position.

Pictures of the match also show the players celebrating their victory, with Ballardini in the background completely detached and not even looking at them.
