“I expect progress in terms of performance and result. The team is working hard and I think they just need a victory to feel more confident,” said the Coach in his Press conference.

“The trend of recent outings is that whoever comes off the bench can make the difference. This increases the value of the squad. Now we have several options in attack and I expect these players to make the difference, whether they start or not.

“We have what it takes to find the right balance between attacking and defending. We did well against Roma and have more confidence than before, but continue to concede goals right at the end of the half. We lack experience and smarts in some cases, so that needs to be improved.

“I don’t believe in bad luck. If in the last four games we had more points then we’d be looking at the future in a rosier light. These results come if you have a certain attitude to the match.

“Atalanta are a solid and compact side, so we must have the confidence to express our style of football without being hasty. It is important to be in the game without being frenetic, because you can win even 1-0 with five minutes to go.

“The team has to have the same attitude as me. The situations of the last few games were our own fault. We have to bring out something extra to emerge from this moment. It’s a long psychological process that will also lay the foundations for the future.”

Fabio Quagliarella certainly brings experience to Sampdoria, but it remains to be seen if he’ll start.

“He’s hungry and a strong player with a lot of experience, so I like him a lot. He does the dirty work and fights for the team as well as scoring goals. I don’t know if he’s got 90 minutes in his legs yet.

“In the first two appearances he proved he’s within the situation of the team, psychologically too.”
