Fabio Quagliarella says Sampdoria cannot 'lose the path to victory' and discusses his relationship with Coach Vincenzo Montella.

The 33-year-old striker counts seven goals in twenty-one Serie A games this season, and the two most recent were consecutive, in the last two games against Inter and Frosinone.

“Goals bring confidence,” Quagliarella told La Gazzetta dello Sport. “The one against Inter was useless, but I scored it against [Samir] Handanovic, not just anyone. For me, it was satisfying.

“I've found the feeling for the shot after having spent some time without playing. [Coach Vincenzo] Montella reintroduced me gradually, a few minutes at first, then half an hour, then as a starter.

“I always make sure that I'm ready. Hopefully some of my shots end up at the back of the net.”

Quagliarella's next game will bring him face to face against Verona, in the Bentegodi staidum which apparently brings him luck.

“Admittedly I always did well there. I scored against [Lorenzo] Squizzi from the midfield. Let's hope I can score a goal, but especially let's hope it's worth three points, because useless goals always leave you a bit of regret.

Hellas Verona Coach Gigi Delneri? I have a wonderful relationship with him, once I scored a bicycle kick goal at the Bentegodi when I was playing for Juventus, and he was the Coach. It'll be an enormous pleasure to see him again.

“That said, on the pitch I will do my duty. Now that we've found a path to victory again, we absolutely must stay on the same track.

“Montella doesn't give much advice but he understands what I think and what I want. He knows how to speak to my teammates so they can place me in the best conditions to score. He wants them to look for me a lot, he expects many vertical balls.

“Playing as the lone striker is new for me. I played at Udinese in the middle of a trident, with [Antonio] Di Natale and [Simone] Pepe, but never in front of two fantasisti.

“I like it, it lets me roam with great freedom. With two players like that, the right ball can come at any moment.”
