Gigi Buffon admits Italy are “not among the favourites for Euro 2016, but we want to overturn those predictions.”

The Azzurri set off today for Montpellier, their training camp during the tournament, which opens on Monday evening against Belgium.

“We are not among the favourites,” captain Buffon told reporters.

“The starting grid has us off the front row, but we want to overturn those predictions. If anything, that situation has made us feel more strongly about this tournament than previous Euros I've been at.

“I don’t know if it’s scepticism around the team, but probably a correct analysis of our strength. However, we will try to prove that this analysis is incorrect.”

Italy are in Group E with Belgium, Sweden and the Republic of Ireland.

Although the Nazionale won four World Cups, they have only ever lifted the European Championship trophy once, back in 1968.
