Vincenzo Montella would gladly keep Luiz Adriano, Carlos Bacca and Mattia De Sciglio at Milan, “but I accept what the club wants.”
The Coach was speaking to Sky Sport Italia after a 2-0 friendly victory away to Freiburg, decided by a Luiz Adriano brace.
“Today I asked the team to push forward our principles of football and to play for the ‘three points.’ We must train ourselves psychologically to this approach.
“The game was a struggle at times, because Freiburg are even better organised than we are right now. You can see how far back the work goes with this team. I am nonetheless satisfied, considering I made a few experiments in some roles.
“I know what Luca Antonelli can give as a full-back, so I tried him out in the centre. I know what Jack Bonaventura can give as an attacking winger, so in recent matches I tested him in the middle.
“Luiz Adriano is a good centre-forward, so I wanted to see him on the wing. Bacca also put some petrol in the tank by playing today, as he needs more playing time to reach full fitness.”
There is one week to go before the start of the Serie A season and Montella was asked about transfer speculation around Bacca, Luiz Adriano and Napoli target De Sciglio.
“I like strong players… I don’t want to make big changes with 15 days to go before the transfer window closes. Naturally I am a Coach, so I accept what the club wants with the utmost calm.”
