“We are happy with the crowd, especially as it’s still August and many people are still on vacation, so fewer than this could’ve been expected,” Baldissoni told Mediaset Premium.

“Without doubt we’ve said many times the objective is to challenge ourselves against the best and that means being stably in the Champions League.

“This time we have to go via the play-offs, and it’s tricky because everything is gambled in two games. As we saw in the first leg, a red card can suddenly change everything, but we have faith.”

Baldissoni was asked whether there was truth in the reports Nainggolan is ready to sign a new contract to June 2021.

“We have talked to the player. You all know he was wanted by several clubs, above all Chelsea, and we’d meet up after the transfer window had closed to discuss an adjustment to his terms that reflected the interest on the market.

“The squad is practically complete and we are planning for the future regardless of tonight’s result.”
