The Nerazzurri lost their opener 2-0 at Chievo and were on the verge of another upset at San Siro today, but Mauro Icardi wiped out Andrea Rispoli’s deflected strike.

“I think we played much better than last week, so we are all disappointed with the result,” De Boer told Mediaset Premium.

“We could’ve won 4-1 considering the way we played in the second half. We are not 100 per cent happy, but it’s early days. We changed some little details and I am confident we can get three points in the next games.

“We were unlucky to concede a goal with Palermo’s first attempt, but today the team created a great deal.”

Antonio Candreva came off the bench and changed the game, providing the assist for Icardi’s header and setting up other chances.

“We have a lot of quality in the squad and he could’ve started, but we have many alternatives. He did very well, you can see he wanted to make the difference.

“Eder is in better shape physically and I have to make my choices. Most of the players are not at 100 per cent. In the second half we did better, because I explained to the team how I wanted them to play.

“I saw the energy I wanted on the pitch. Why didn’t I use all three substitutions? We were putting Palermo under pressure, so there was no need to change system or players.”
