Roma would face competition from some mid-table Premier League sides – likely Bournemouth and Crystal Palace – who would be able to offer a higher salary, and Scottish champions Celtic.
While the Scottish Premiership clearly doesn’t have the prestige of Serie A, the Bhoys could offer Champions League football, unlike Roma.
The alternatives for the Giallorossi are Clement Grenier of Lyon, possibly as part of a swap deal involving Juan Iturbe, Adam Maher of PSV or Younes Belhanda of Dynamo Kiev.
