The 21-year-old joined on loan from Chelsea in the summer, and played his first 28 minutes of the campaign in Milan’s 1-0 win over Pescara last weekend after returning from injury.

"I'm excited to finally play for Milan, I think I did very well but I also missed a couple of chances," the youngster told goal.com. "After my debut I felt a great relief, I had been waiting for this moment.

"The injury has gone now and are pleased to have played half an hour and not only one or two minutes.

“The last time I played a club game was on February 14, it's been almost nine months since I played in an U-21’s match.

"[Adriano] Galliani and [Vincenzo] Montella have had some nice words for me, I will only give my best to honor the Milan shirt.

“The competition for places is great, we have ten midfielders and without Europe there is a chance for all to play.

“We are a young and promising team, our goal is to return to Europe. [Gianluigi] Donnarumma and [Manuel] Locatelli can become world-class players.

"The rumors about me leaving in January? The stories have never distracted me.

“The Coach has treated me well and it was enough to decide to stay and repay the confidence the club has in me.

“Despite the results of recent years, I know what a great club Milan is.”
