Roberto De Zerbi refused to return and Eugenio Corini has so far decided not to resign, so Palermo remain as they are.
The club is in its habitual state of turmoil amid reports President Maurizio Zamparini had a meeting with De Zerbi, the Coach who was sacked at the start of December.
While Zamparini tried to recall the tactician, De Zerbi turned it down, still stung by the experience of only 13 games in charge.
Corini was understandably hurt by the fact he is only on the Palermo bench because the club cannot find a replacement.
However, according to the latest reports, Corini three times considered and then decided against handing in his resignation.
He hopes that he can turn things around in Sicily, especially as he has a strong rapport with the fans due to his time here as a player.
Inevitably, the situation remains in the balance with Corini and Palermo in a holding pattern.
Corini made his debut on December 4 and picked up one win, a draw and two defeats on the Rosanero bench.
