Saponara had just eight senior appearances for the Rossoneri in 2013-14 before returning to Empoli.
“I thank Empoli for allowing me to make this move in January, I thank the President, the Coach and Fiorentina for this faith in me, which I want to repay. There had been some ‘flirting’ with the Viola in the past.
“It’s not true to say I was no longer happy at Empoli, as it was always my second home. I had a small ankle sprain that affected my season, but I don’t think there are any problems going forward. Perhaps after two great years the expectations at Empoli had become a bit too high and that put pressure on the squad.
“Fiorentina are a big club and I intend to take this opportunity, unlike at Milan. My ultimate dream is to wear the Italy jersey. I don’t think there are any other dreams, because I am already wearing the Fiorentina shirt.
“I am crazy about Borja Valero and I could cover his position, if needed. The technical level of the Fiorentina squad is so high and that’s why I am excited to be here.”
