There were several controversial incidents in the 1-0 Rossoneri victory, including penalties awarded and ignored, bookings for simulation and a Carlos Bacca spot-kick that he touched twice.

“It’s difficult to talk about the game without referencing the refereeing decisions, as they are so shocking that they transformed the game,” Sassuolo midfielder Aquilani told Sky Sport Italia.

“I don’t know what on earth they saw, but I promise I did not touch Andrea Bertolacci. I swear it and I swore it to the referee too.

“The biggest error of them all was Bacca’s penalty when he touched the ball twice. Also, how did he not give a penalty for that Gabriel Paletta foul on Matteo Politano? What can I even say? Just look at it!

“It’s unpleasant to talk about referees, we know they can make mistakes, but honestly today there were so many and they were so bad, it’s impossible to ignore.”
