Gigi Buffon is looking forward to Italy-Spain this evening and assures Cesare Prandelli has “changed our course.”
The Azzurri lost on penalties when Spain moved towards the Euro 2008 trophy, followed soon after by the 2010 World Cup.
“Spain are a fantastic squad and their style has revolutionised football,” said the goalkeeper ahead of tonight's friendly in Bari.
“They have been able to open up a new winning era, overcoming teams like Italy and Brazil. They deserve all our compliments.
“Spain have great players, but what I would take from them is a trophy. The 2008 European Championship was absolutely decisive in their climb up the football latter.
“Our Nazionale could really do with a success like that to improve our self-belief and confidence.”
Italy won the World Cup with Buffon in 2006, but struggled under both Roberto Donadoni and the second Marcello Lippi era.
“Prandelli was given the job of taking our team back to the top. We're working well and can start to see the results,” continued the goalkeeper.
“We play attacking football and everyone on the field gives their best. He changed our course.”
