Milan will reportedly make a move for Kaka or Marco Parolo if Mathieu Flamini is ruled out of action for six months.
It's feared that the Frenchman has damaged knee ligaments which could see him sidelined for the majority of the season.
Although the club are set to sign Alberto Aquilani from Liverpool, he won't be the only new arrival if tests confirm that Flamini needs surgery.
Stories on Tuesday suggest that the Rossoneri have two options to replace the former Arsenal man in the squad.
One road open to them is to bring in Kaka from Real Madrid, thus allowing Kevin Prince Boateng to be used in a deeper midfield role.
The other route which is being discussed is to get a straight replacement for Flamini in the form of Parolo.
The 26-year-old had a stunning first season in Serie A last term at Cesena and he's been linked with clubs such as Fiorentina, Lazio and Palermo this term.
Parolo would obviously be keen on the move, especially as he has never hidden the fact that he is a Milan fan.
