Giorgio Chiellini feels the Azzurri must “sit down and go over this game” against the Faroe Islands to avoid future errors.
“With hindsight we should've scored a second goal earlier on to put the game to bed, as your opponents will always get chances,” he said of the 1-0 result.
“At least the three points have us practically at Euro 2012 and we hope to celebrate that on Tuesday in Florence.
“We need to sit down as a squad and go over this game, as we relaxed a bit too much. I personally wasn't tired, so I don't think the lack of Serie A matches made a difference.
“It was more psychological, as we assumed it would be simple after the early goal. Cassano was happy about the goal and we were happy with the three points, but also a little irritated, as we are all fully aware we should've done better.”
Italy have the best defence in the Euro 2012 qualifying campaign, having conceded only once in seven games.
“We were joking before kick-off that the moment people start talking about record clean sheets, that's when you start conceding!”
The Azzurri are practically qualified, as Slovenia and Northern Ireland both lost on home turf, so they are eight points clear at the top of Group C.
“The results change nothing, as we still intended to give it our all and secure qualification in Florence. We know Slovenia and faced them in March, so I remember their danger,” concluded Chiellini.
