Mauro Zarate says Lazio boss Edy Reja wasted no time in telling him that he was surplus to requirements in the capital.
Zarate joined Inter in a loan deal on transfer deadline day, but he has revealed that he knew his stint in Rome was coming to an end much earlier this summer.
"Reja told me that I would have no space in the team on the very first day of pre-season training," the Argentine stated to Mediaset.
"We spoke about it, but I won't tell you what was said."
Zarate was linked with a move to England, but the Nerazzurri made a late swoop for his services after failing to land Rodrigo Palacio from Genoa.
"I'm settling in well," he added. "My fellow Argentines at this club are fundamental for me. Even if things are much easier at a great club.
"I want to do well here and demonstrate my value. I want to get to the very top in my career."
Zarate also admitted that he was a little nervous about meeting Inter President Massimo Moratti. "My legs were trembling when I was introduced to him "
Inter play Palermo on Sunday.
