Roberto Mancini admits Manchester City have been “trying to get Alessio Cerci for a year,” but couldn't reach a deal with Fiorentina.
His club were in negotiations for the winger in January and again this summer, although the player remains in Florence.
“I have been tracking him since his days at Pisa, as he's one of those players who can change a game by himself,” said Mancini.
“If I could've done, I would have brought him to the Premier League a year ago. We tried to sign him this summer as well, as he can give an important contribution to this squad.
“However, we were unable to complete the transfer. To be honest, I understand Fiorentina's position. I'd want to keep Cerci too.”
