Alberto Gilardino hopes to be back in action for Fiorentina and Italy “in around a month's time.”
The striker had feared a devastating knee ligament injury when his knee bent backwards during an accidental collision with Udinese goalkeeper Samir Handanovic.
He was fortunate that the doctors only predicted a six-week lay-off for the sprain and slight micro fracture.
“I am recovering from the injury. I think I'm set to return to the field in around a month's time,” said Gilardino during a Save the Children charity event.
The Italian international has already missed big games against Parma, Napoli and Lazio after damaging his left knee on September 18.
