Walter Mazzarri says it's “absurd” critics claim Napoli are falling off the pace. “We are achieving exceptional things.”
The Partenopei have picked up one point from their last two Serie A games and have found it difficult to juggle domestic commitments with the Champions League.
On Wednesday evening they go head-to-head with current leaders Udinese and some would suggest the Friulani are the favourites.
“So far we are achieving exceptional things, as eight positive results in 10 games during a short space of time is not bad,” insisted the Coach.
“People always seem to forget these things and try to raise expectations. I am hearing some absurd talk about Napoli and if these lads have a moment of losing intensity, it's normal considering so many matches in quick succession.
“Last season we won at Cagliari playing worse football than we did to get a draw this weekend. It even seemed as if some turned their noses up at our draw with Bayern Munich. People really have lost sense of reality.”
Mazzarri was asked whether he will rotate the squad tomorrow night against Udinese.
“As always, aside from the top picks, I will choose the best team in terms of physical condition and suitability to face our opponents. I always work for the interests of Napoli.
“Udinese will want to make the most of our mistakes, so we must do well to maintain the utmost concentration throughout. It's also possible Francesco Guidolin will change the way his team plays, too.
“Some say we made a mistake in having such a strong start compared to Milan and Inter, as if doing something extraordinary is negative. Our Champions League group cannot be compared to any other, just as we cannot forget our marked improvement in away games.
“After all, Manchester City beat Manchester United 6-1...”
Napoli held City to a 1-1 draw at Eastlands in their Champions League opener.
