Stefano Mauri has been ruled out of action until 2012 through injury after suffering a recurrence of an earlier thigh strain.
The midfielder was ruled out of Lazio's midweek fixture with Catania, the third game in a row the 31-year-old had missed. Hours after the subsequent 1-1 draw with the Rossazzurri at the Olimpico, the extent of the damage was revealed with Mauri now confirmed as having suffered a serious recurrence of a thigh strain.
Mauri missed five weeks of action earlier in the season with a second-degree thigh strain - the same injury Inter's Julio Cesar has just suffered - and returned to action from the bench for October's Rome derby.
However, it is understood that the player has now suffered a third-degree strain of the same left thigh and will be unavailable for selection until after the winter break.
