Barzagli leaves Italy camp

Andrea Barzagli is on his way back to Turin after he withdrew from the Italy squad because of injury.

The defender strained a calf muscle in training earlier this week which did rule him out of Friday’s friendly in Poland.

The World Cup winner initially remained with the party though in a bid to be ready for Tuesday’s Rome friendly against Uruguay.

He’ll now be assessed by Juventus’ medical staff ahead of the Old Lady’s next League game against Palermo in Week 12.

Inter’s Andrea Ranocchia is also struggling with fitness issues which could lead boss Cesare Prandelli to field a centre-back pairing of Giorgio Chiellini and Angelo Ogbonna.

The Juventus stopper has recently been used as a left-back by boss Antonio Conte, while the Torino man is uncapped at this level.
