Christian Maggio will sign a new contract at Napoli before the first day of 2012 arrives, his agent has confirmed.
The right-sided wing-back has been in talks about a renewal for the past few months given that his present agreement expires in 2013.
After a number of negotiations, it seems as if the two parties are on the verge of reaching a compromise over terms.
“Christian will sign a contract before the end of the year,” Massimo Briaschi told Radio CRC on Wednesday.
“Maggio, on more than one occasion, has outlined that he intends to prolong his stay with the club for a while longer.
“As a result of that, it seems to me that the club are ready to hand him an extension to his contract. I think we’re close to signing.
“The delay in actually finalising everything is simply down to how busy both parties have been in recent times.
“An agreement will be signed by the end of the year.”
Maggio, who joined the Azzurri from Sampdoria in 2008, is an Italian international who featured in last night’s 1-0 loss to Uruguay.
