Walter Mazzarri warns tonight’s clash with Lecce “is a crossroads” for Napoli’s Serie A campaign.
The Partenopei are on the verge of Champions League qualification, needing only a point against Villarreal to make it through to the knockouts, but their domestic form has suffered badly.
“This is an absolutely crucial game for us and a very important crossroads,” said the Coach.
“We could’ve won against both Lazio and Juventus, so this shows just how strong we are when in good shape.
“The tactical adjustments that other Italian and European teams make against us prove there is a great deal of respect for us and the threat we represent.
“However, now there is Lecce, which is a decisive encounter for us. For the first time, I don’t care about the performance, I just want the result.”
Mazzarri is set to rotate the squad, keeping the likes of Ezequiel Lavezzi, Marek Hamsik, Paolo Cannavaro and Walter Gargano on the bench.
“Tuesday’s game with Villarreal can weigh on us during the game, so this does worry me. We’ve got to do well to take it one match at a time.
“I will rotate the squad because many players need to catch their breath. Villarreal is a very important test, but right now I just want to think about Lecce.”
Napoli squad: De Sanctis, Rosati, Aronica, Campagnaro, Fernandez, Fideleff, Grava, Dossena, Dzemaili, Gargano, Hamsik, Inler, Maggio, Zuniga, Cavani, Lavezzi, Lucarelli, Pandev, Santana.
