Garrone leaves door open for Cassano

Sampdoria President Riccardo Garrone remains “moderately satisfied” with the Antonio Cassano verdict and opens the door for a comeback.

The tribunal today ruled that the club could not terminate his contract for insubordination.

However, Cassano is suspended without pay from October 29 to January 31 and will then be paid only half his wages until the end of his contract in June 2013.

The player will also have to pay legal costs, but the President was not too upset with the outcome.

“After the decision that was taken, I can consider myself moderately satisfied,” said Garrone.

“It is clear that the tribunal confirmed the seriousness of what happened.

“Also certain is that this verdict leaves the door open to the possibility of reintegrating the player into the squad. I will talk about this aspect over the next few days.”

This is an important statement, as it suggests Samp could welcome Cassano back into the side and not necessarily put him on the transfer market.
