Alberto Gilardino has enjoyed his first training session with his new Genoa teammates today after Fiorentina confirmed his sale
Gila has undergone his medical and this afternoon stepped out for the first time in a Grifone jersey. "ACF Fiorentina confirm we have sold Alberto Gilardino to Genoa CFC. We thank him for his years spent with us and wish him the best for his future career."
The club’s official website includes a photograph of the Italian international waving to around 2,000 supporters at the Signorini training ground.
A fax came through around 20 minutes earlier giving Fiorentina’s permission for Gilardino to begin training with his new teammates.
“A welcome like this is reserved only for the greats and Genoa was out in force to celebrate Gilardino’s first training session. Even if the documents will be filed with the Lega tomorrow, the atmosphere is one of jubilation,” read the Genoa website.
“His former Fiorentina teammates Dario Dainelli and Sebastien Frey gave him a ‘high five’ and Gilardino was open-mouthed with shock at the passion of the fans. Traffic ground to a halt outside the training ground and car horns repeatedly sounded from the nearby motorway to celebrate his first steps.
“The training sessions will be open to everyone even for the Wednesday and Thursday sessions with a probable game against the youth team in the afternoon.”
