Udinese have confirmed the loan signing of Swiss international midfielder Gelson Fernandes from French club St Etienne.
Fernandes, previously on loan this season with English Championship side Leicester City, arrives in Udine on a six-month deal with an agreed upon but not compulsory option for Udinese to make the deal permanent in the summer.
The move for the 25-year-old former Manchester City man, who spent last season on loan with Chievo, is thought to be the Zebrette’s response to losing midfielders Kwadwo Asamoah, Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu and Thierry Doubai for the upcoming 2012 Africa Cup of Nations.
