Milan to recall Merkel?

Milan will ask Genoa to hand them back midfielder Alexander Merkel for the rest of the season, reports the Gazzetta dello Sport.

The 19-year-old moved to Marassi in the summer after Genoa bought a 50 per cent share in him and the Rossoneri signed a co-ownership deal for Stephan El Shaarawy.

The Italian champions are concerned about the high number of injuries that have affected their midfield so far this season.

Presently, boss Massimiliano Allegri is without Mathieu Flamini for the next two months, while Alberto Aquilani and Gennaro Gattuso will be sidelined for the next four weeks.

According to the report, the Marassi outfit have already agreed to hand over the youngster who has made six top-flight appearances for the Diavolo.

The German Under-20 international has impressed in his 13 League appearances for Genoa so far this term.
