Catania have confirmed that “Maxi Lopez is virtually a Milan player” after a deal was finalised on Monday.
The Rossoneri have turned to the Argentine after seemingly missing out on Carlos Tevez of Manchester City and losing Alexandre Pato to injury.
“Maxi Lopez is virtually a Milan player,” Catania transfer guru Pietro Lo Monaco told Sky Sport Italia on Monday.
“We found an agreement over the last few days and everything was made formal today. Milan have a few things to sort out before they can make the move official.
“The player asked us strongly if he could join Milan and we’ve decided to make that happen.”
Lopez was wanted by Premiership club Fulham, but the Sicilian outfit have now told them that the South American is heading to Milanello.
“This has been a beautiful operation,” agent Andrea D’Amico is quoted as saying. “The boy will realise his dream of wearing the Milan jersey.”
However, Milan official Adriano Galliani underlined that the Rossoneri could still bring in Tevez rather than Lopez.
“There is an agreement between Milan and Catania,” he stated. “It’s probable that he will arrive as we are interested in him.
“We’ll wait a few days to close the deal.
“Tevez? We want him. The player and his agent know the situation. A striker will certainly arrive. If that isn’t Tevez then it will be Maxi Lopez – but it won’t be both.”
