Walter Mazzarri’s appeal against a two-match Champions League ban was rejected, so he’ll miss both legs of Napoli-Chelsea.
The Coach was suspended after pushing Villarreal striker Nilmar on the touchline during Napoli’s 2-0 victory in Spain.
He had lodged an appeal, claiming Nilmar was time-wasting and had wandered into the technical area, whereas Mazzarri never left his zone and was just trying to get the ball back into play as soon as possible.
However, UEFA rejected the appeal and added a third game to the ban on a suspended sentence.
“The two-game ban was confirmed, then there is a third suspended sentence,” explained Napoli lawyer Mattia Grassani on Sky Sport Italia.
“If there is no appeal to a third party, then he will have to sit out the ban in both the home and away legs against Chelsea.”
It is possible Napoli could appeal to the TNAS sport tribunal in Switzerland.
The first leg of the Champions League knockouts is at the San Paolo on February 21.
