Siena have rubbished speculation that they are considering sacking boss Giuseppe Sannino. “It’s idiocy.”
The Tuscan minnows fell to a heavy 4-1 defeat against Lecce on Sunday, a result which leaves them in 17th and just two points clear of the drop zone.
Consequently, there have been suggestions on Monday that the man who replaced Antonio Conte in the summer could be facing the chop.
“Who circulates these idiotic voices?” sporting director Giorgio Perinetti told ItaSportPress on Monday afternoon.
“Our Coach is doing incredibly well. He’s responded well to the objectives which the club set him at the start of the season.
“We’re in the semi-finals of the Italian Cup too. What more could we want of him…”
Siena have won just two of their last 14 games in Serie A, but they recently drew 0-0 at Juventus and beat Roma 1-0.
The 54-year-old Sannino, a 4-4-2 disciple, moved to the Stadio Franchi in the summer after three years with little Varese.
